ORIGAMI 29 MarchWell Happy New Year everyone. Gloomy old January is almost gone and I have some good news.

I have secured a venue and date for the next Irish Origami get together in Athlone, with the help of my sister Esther and brother Bill, thanks to both of you.

Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) in Westmeath are kindly facilitating Irish Origami to hold this event for free. This venue is located centrally; it is just off the M6 motorway. National bus services stop outside AIT and national train services also stop in Athlone. On Saturday there is free parking on the campus. The event will be held in an exhibition area at one end of the college canteen. It is a very nice bright area with lounge seating and the canteen is open all day for those who need refreshments.

Please, please let me know if you are coming we need to know or gauge how many will be there. The great thing about the location is, we can expand or contract to suit the numbers.

Let me know if you want to exhibit your origami collection. Would you be prepared to do a demonstration on the day?

I would also like to have an email list so I can send out updates as needed.

Saturday 29th March 2014 from 12pm to 4pm. That is 4 hours of folding, hope it’s enough time on the day, what do you think? I know on World Origami Week I held a 4 hour folding session which could have gone on for 6 hours.

The college Art Department are looking forward to the event. So will be expecting a few students to be around.

I am of the opinion that there should be no charge on the day but I would like to have a donation box with a sign indicating and suggesting donation of €5 at the discretion of those who participate and €2 for students.

Other things to consider is sponsorship re paper etc. and not sure about this one, Insurance. Question is do we need it?

Looking forward to meeting up with some of the folders from the first event held in Dublin last year, which was organised by Darren Fitzpatrick and of course new folders.

MEETING Saturday 29th MARCH in ATHLONE — 7 Comments

  1. I must be mad….
I’ve just bought a ticket to Dublin and back.
If I can work out how to find the trains/buses/or whatever to Athlone, I might actually get there!

    • David
Delighted to hear your making the journey over to Athlone. I know there are a few coming from Dublin, Darren will be making his way that morning. I know Bus Eirean run a service from Dublin Airport and stops at the Main Entrance to Athlone College. Anyone doing Origami has an element of madness, so coming to Athlone fits right in;-)
      Looking forward to meeting you.

  2. Looking forward to the event. Encouraging all the children from the school I work in to go. I have already introduced them to the art of origami. Good luck I sure it will be a great success.
